Wilbur-Ellis, an international marketer and distributor of agricultural products, animal nutrients, and specialty chemicals and ingredients, has acquired Nachurs Alpine Solutions (NAS), a specialty liquid chemical manufacturer serving the precision agriculture, transportation, energy and diversified industrial sectors in North America. NAS is the largest acquisition in Wilbur-Ellis’ history.

For the keynote addresses for ABIM 2019 21-23 October, Professor Urs Niggli, director of FiBL, gave a presentation entitled: “Can agriculture as practised today deliver for the future?” He answered his own question by saying no, but said that it still remained for him to prove it. Citizens had already made up their minds against conventional chemical pesticides, he postulated. Then looking at the projected global population growth, Niggli asked if it was possible to produce 50 percent more food and reduce inputs. He said he was yet to find a scientist who could offer evidence that this could be done.

The winner of the 2019 Bernard Blum award was announced at the opening ceremony of ABIM 2019 in Basel, Switzerland, on 21 October.
The prize went to Tutavir from Andermatt Biocontrol. The product contains Phthorimaea operculella granulovirus (PhopGV) for selective control of Tuta absoluta, the tomato leafminer. Tutavir won from a short-list of three products.
